I need some ideas! My niece is turning 13 at the end of the month and I would like our gift to her to be something special and memorable, perhaps even a little more "grown up." She is a very special girl and I think 13 is a pretty big milestone - something to be celebrated for sure! I only want to spend about $30. Normally, I buy her some sort of clothing, which she loves, but this year I think I want to branch out from my regular routine of GAP apparel. Can any of you help me with ideas? Thanks so much!

13 is such a difficult age. If I recall that is when they start getting more interested in make-up and spa things. You could always do a spa theme, manicure and pedicure theme. Smelly lotions etc....
I sell Mary Kay Cosmetic products and there is always fun lip glosses, nail polishes, smelly lotions, foot scrubs.... all at varying prices to fit your price range.
Hope this got your mind going on ideas.
Good luck and remember that whatever you end up getting her she will love because it came from you:)
you know what she would probably love more than anything? Going somewhere or doing something with YOU. Take her to a movie, go get your nails done or something - she would love it!
Hi Sarah,
I don't think I've commented on your blog before. We met quite a few years ago at UCFV. You were friends with Daryl Dix and we would chat every so often.
Anyway, regarding your niece, my idea is for you to create a photo book with photos of the two of you. I don't know if you have a lot or not but you could fill up the pages with past, much younger, photos and work your way up to her age now, 13. I made a book for my mom for christmas and it was great. It was $29.99 US and made on my mac. If you don't like that idea you could make her a slide show with photos. I LOVE making presents using photos.
Anyway, just thought I'd suggest these ideas.
I agree with Megan, whatever you decide will be perfect.
Have a great week.
i was also going to say to create a photo book of you guys if you had some pictures! pictures tell a thousand words and it's great, because they're reminders of all the good memories!
Photobooks a great idea. Spa stuff too. I'm sorry, I'm better with 5 year olds at this point...
i agree with lindsay that taking her out to do something just the two of you would be really special! having many sisters go through that age after me, all the idea's suggested would be great, but my "vote" is for the photo book idea, or taking her out. good luck!
Hey Sarah!
I'm with Rachel, I'd say take her out for the day, something you guys could really look back on and remember (take lots of pictures). You could take her on the skytrain from surrey station into vancouver, and maybe go for a walk down in gas town and have lunch at the spaghetti factory before going to a movie down there somewhere or something. Could be difficult with Elijah... but it would mean a lot to her I think. See if there's any exhibitions on at canada place, or maybe on a whale watching tour or something like it. Come down to steveston for a walk along the dike & a fish & chips lunch or something. Just a thought..
luv Katelyn
Hi Sarah,
This is quite exciting for me to be commenting on your blog:) I hope you are doing well. Anyway, I thought that I had this great idea to get her some make-up or nail polish etc. But someone beat me to the punch:) lol. Anyway, there are also more intimate spa's you could go to and you could get her a manicure:) Alot of girls around 13 come into my spa for their birthdays and they LOVE it!!! Our spa price range is a little more than you probably want to spend but even look around at the spas in the mall they usually have manicures under or around $30.
Good luck:)
Love Lorelei
