Standing Proud

Elijah has now mastered pulling himself up to stand. He discovered this new talent the other day in his crib when he should have been sleeping - typical. It was very quiet until I heard some talking, almost calling, so I went into his room to a grinning and ever so proud baby holding onto the rails of his crib. I was quite impressed, but contained my enthusiasm (sleeping is always a priority). I put him down and left. Five minutes later I hear more talking, go in and sure enough he's standing again. So I put him down once more and leave... knowing that this won't be the last time I go in there. Thankfully, he only did it one more time before he fell asleep, but I was beginning to think his nap wouldn't happen with all his shenanigans. I think on that first day he didn't know where to go once he was up. Well, now he knows. He will just plop onto his bum when he gets tired or bored. The only worry I have is that he pulls himself up in the most precarious of locations... head injury alert! Sometimes he looks quite unsteady, especially when he goes one-handed. So I have to watch him carefully so as he doesn't whack himself good in the head or mouth or... so far so good.

Here's some shots of the house now that I have a very mobile, and fast baby on the move.

Notice how I have a basket in front of the TV, and another one blocking him in from the other side? He is in total discovery mode these days. He wants to know about everything. TV cables, DVD buttons, electrical outlets (note to self: buy covers!!!). If I didn't blockade him in that little monkey would be everywhere and anywhere his little heart desires - and with the puppies inside right now, well that could be disastrous!
He looks funny in this picture, but you get the idea that he is pulling himself up. I don't have one when he's standing tho.
Lost interest, ready to go somewhere else.

Beautiful blue eyes...

One more thing - we have 11 puppies, 4 females, 7 males. All are doing really well and growing fast. They look kind of funny right now, their eyes aren't open yet, but here's a picture of a few in the basket when they're not nursing on mom.

ahhh, i welcome you to this new, active stage of parenting. The stage of them getting into EVERYTHING.
About him standing in his crib and ignoring the fact that he should be napping...I found that the novelty passed with taeya quite quickly. She NEVER stands in her crib anymore, unless I go into get her. Even when she wakes up, she'll stay laying down to play, and occasionally sit, but never stands. So hopefully he gets past it soon and remembers how wonderful sleep is.
looking forward to seeing you monday night!

It's nice to hear that you have hit the getting into everything stage! Aidan loved to stand in his crib for awhile but eventually found it boring. If he does stand up and play with the blinds he eventually lays down and goes to sleep. I hope the novelty runs out sooner than later for you. Enjoy the journey of running after the little guy. It just gets more interesting...you think you have gotten everything out of reach and then they find something else. Arggggggh
Take care
